Haka House Hostels strictly prohibits bookings from individuals under the age of 18 unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The following guidelines apply:

Accompanied Under 18’s:

  • Individuals under the age of 18 can only stay at the Hostel when accompanied by a parent or legal guardian in the same room.
  • The room must be private.
  • No extra beds, cot or baby crib are provided at the Hostel.

Shared Room Exceptions for Unaccompanied Under 18’s in Groups:

  • Unaccompanied under 18’s are not allowed to stay in shared rooms, unless they are part of a group that has booked out the entire shared room.
  • The group leader must provide the required documentation to Haka House.

Consequences of Non-Adherence:

  • Failure to comply with these policies will result in automatic cancellation of the booking with no refund. Guests violating these rules will not be permitted to check into the Hostel.
  • Please ensure that you review and comply with these age-related policies to ensure a smooth and enjoyable stay at Haka House.

Check-in is any time from 2pm and check-out is at 10am.
We can also arrange for an after-hours check in upon request before arrival.

Safety is our top priority at all Haka House Properties. Our security features include:
• 24/7 CCTV cameras.
• Swipe cards for each building/room and for lift access.

We require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice prior to the date of arrival for all cancellations or amendments or amendments to accommodation reservations.
Any change to the arrival date, departure date or room type of the reservation is subject to the property’s availability at the time the amendment is requested and may result in a possible rate change or additional fee.
Non-refundable bookings have no option to receive a refund if cancelled. The guest must cancel
bookings made via an online agent such as Booking.com via the agent before Haka can formally
cancel the booking.
Haka will operate within the Consumer Guarantees Act & Fair Trading Act.
Modifications and date change
Applicable for direct bookings made via our website, or reservations team on email or phone.
Fully flexible rate modifications or date change requests must be made 24 hours prior to arrival.
Bookings made through online travel agents such as booking.com etc. must be modified
through the online travel agent directly by the guest

Yes, we supply all your bed sheets.

Only our private rooms come with towels. You can hire a towel from reception for a small
charge.

A reservation of four rooms or more is usually considered a group booking and cannot be made through our site. For group bookings please phone 0800 888 913 or email
reservations@nzhostel.com.

Yes! Our hostels are located near some of New Zealand’s best biking terrain. Queenstown offers access to the Queenstown Bike Park and the famous Skyline Gondola trail system. Rotorua is world-renowned for its Whakarewarewa Forest MTB trails.

Absolutely. We offer secure bike storage and lock-up areas at several of our hostels. Please contact the specific location to confirm availability.

While we don’t offer rentals in-house, our local teams can recommend the best bike rental shops, many of which offer discounts for Haka House guests.

Yes! Whether you’re new to mountain biking or a seasoned rider, our locations are close to trails of all difficulty levels, from scenic riverside paths to technical downhill routes. Just ask our friendly staff with any questions you may have. 

Definitely. Each of our hostels is located near some of New Zealand’s most iconic hiking routes. For example, Haka House Queenstown is a short distance from Ben Lomond Track, and our Taupō location is a great base for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

Yes! Our reception teams are passionate locals who can suggest trails based on your fitness level, time available, and weather conditions.

We offer trail maps, info sheets, and local tips at most reception desks. Some locations even run occasional guided hikes in partnership with local operators.

Yes; many of our hostels offer laundry and drying areas perfect for muddy boots, wet gear, or multi-day hikers coming back from the trail.

You’ll be spoiled for choice. Queenstown offers Lake Wakatipu views, Skyline Gondola, and Lord of the Rings filming sites. Rotorua features geothermal parks, Maori cultural villages, and the Redwoods Forest. Christchurch and Auckland also offer museums, galleries, and waterfront walks.
