Cultural Performance & Experience

  • Performance: Learn about the migration of Tamatekapua through performing arts, depicting the Māori Pacifica connection.
  • Feast: Enjoy a buffet featuring delicious traditional hangi food from the Great Ocean of Kiwa, including meat, chicken, kumara, and more. The hangi, cooked in an earth-oven, infuses the food with rich, earthy flavors.

Hangi Cooking Method

The hāngī involves placing baskets of food on hot stones at the bottom of a pit, covered to trap heat and steam. This process cooks the food for 3-4 hours, delivering an authentic and delicious taste.

  • Viewing the unveiling of a traditional hangi meal
  • Witnessing warriors paddling a canoe down Wai-o-Whiro stream
